![]() | The Landwirtschaftlicher Beratungsdienst Schwäbisch Hall e. V., an agricultural consultancy service of the BESH Group, was founded in 1991. The consultants advise the 273 pig breeders (stand: 2008), who are members of the BESH. In addition, they carry out practical tests and investigations dealing with agricultural production and transmit these and other agricultural research results to the members. Besides, the consultancy service operates effciency tests in the member farms based on the livestock. |

| BESH is a farmer’s association founded in 1988. Its purpose is to market and promote the meat of the Schwäbisch Hällischen Schweine (SH). A reasonable market size is necessary to maintain the existence of this rare pig breed. The SH pigs are reknowned for their very high meat quality. The legal standing of the BESH is a ‘wirtschaftlicher Verein, an organistional form comparable to a cooperative.The association consists of 980 members.The Bäuerlische Erzeugergemeinschaft Schwäbisch Hall AG is one of BESH’s subsidiaries. Itprocesses the meat. It has also an office for marketing activities which is responsible for selling and maintaining a market for the meat of the SH. | ||

| EGO is a fully integrated system on a cooperative base (120 employees). It coordinates a self sufficient regional production chain from piglet production over to slaughter facilities through to a meat processing unit. 500 contracted farms produce aproximately 420.000 piglets and 370.000 pigs for slaughtering. All member farms act according to a stringently controlled integrated quality management system. A combined animal health service system provides preventive veterinary services. EGO runs its own business for meat extraction and dissection with a current slaughter capacity of 500.000 pigs p.a. EGO has long-term experience in national and international applied research and technology developement projects. |

| The GLS is an organisation which carries out microbiological sampling, quality control and monitoring, and meat hygiene controls. It has developed a quality monitoring system starting at the delivery of the living animal at the slaughterhouse to pre-packed retailer fresh meat. It disposes over a laboratory which can offer a broad variety of meat quality testing.

![]() | H+P was founded in 2004 as a non-profit organisation with the mandate from the Bavarian Stategovernment to conduct the meat hygiene examination in three slaughterhouses and in two administrative districts. Furthermore, H+P operates for quality programmes, e.g. salmonella sampling.The Fleischhygiene Südostbayern GmbH is 100% subsidiary of H+P and likewise a non-profit organisation. It carries out meat hygiene examination in the Southeast of Bavaria. |

The ZDS is an umbrella organisation of organised pig production in Germany. It comprises nearly all breeding organisations and organisations for artificil insemination. And nearly all farmers organizations for sows, piglets, fattening and slaughtering pigs as well as agricultural and iconsulting organisations are involved. ZDS represents the interests of organised pig production on national and international level and coordinates within Germany the areas of breeding, artificial insemination, research (A.I., genomic, biotechnology), reproduction hygiene, data acquisition and data evaluation. In addition, ZDS is concerned with current questions in exchange with the political and administrative level, the other umbrella organisations within the agricultural sector and subsequent fields. | |

BESH AG
![]() | The Baeuerliche Erzeugergemeinschaft Schwaebisch Hall (BESH) AG is one of the subsidiaries of the BESH w. V. It is in place for processing the meat and delivery of meat parts. It also owns an office to carry out marketing activities. Its purpose is to sell the meat of the Schwaebisch Haellische Schweine and contribute through providing a market for that kind of meat. The philosophy of the BESH is to produce trustworthy, environmentally friendly, sustainable products at the farm-level. In a regional context the development of BESH has led to the development of a 'Quality meat programme' for the SH pig and also for all other marketed animals (cattle, lambs). Only members of the BESH are allowed to deliver animals to the BESH, and members are integrated in a food security system. | |

EGQF

To guarantee the quality of the meat, the breeders have to abide by obligatory production- and quality-regulations. The EGQF has the ability to certify special piglets as organic. Erzeugerschlachthof AG
![]() | The Erzeugerschlachthof Schwäbisch Hall AG, founded in 2001, is a stock corporation controlled by the BESH as major shareholder and owned by farmers and consumers. It is a unique model to preserve a communal slaughterhouse against decline and to keep it for the farmers' needs in the region, but especially to guarantee animal welfare and a careful slaughter. More than 4000 pigs and about 1000 suckling pigs are slaughtered there per week. |

ZVSH

The ZDS supports the communication with the industry and SMEs for the set up of pilot and demonstration chains, as well as training and dissemination of results to SMEs in the German pork sector.

GIQS coordinates the implementation of the results into practise. The international platform for public-private co-operation in research and development has the assignment to manage the application oriented research in companies, pilot chains and networks. 1.5 million Euro is reserved for pilot activities which will be assigned to industry partners during the course of the project (through competitive calls).
